APRICOT 2001 SPONSORSHIP

New Straits Times, Thursday, January 18, 2001

FREE sponsored seats for fellowships of the coming Asia-Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies 2001 (Apricot 2001) are now open for applications.

The sponsorship worth RM1,900 per participant covers the conference, tutorials and an opportunity to meet local and international Internet personalities. Scheduled in Kuala Lumpur from Feb 26 to March, the conference is co-organised by the Energy, Communications and Multimedia Ministry and the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia (Pikom).

Pikom's chairperson Wendy Liew said the move to offer the sponsorship is to encourage more patrons to the conference.

"While the fee may be affordable to corporate companies, we wish to extend the opportunity to deserving participants other than players in the Internet industry to take part in this annual event."

Apricot 2001 is a forum which facilitates knowledge-sharing among key Internet builders in the region with peers from the Internet community worldwide.

Keynote speakers for the first plenary session are Multimedia Development Corp's executive chairman Tan Sri Othman Yeop Abdullah and Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre's Jun Murai. Internet personalities like David S. Isenberg and Anders Comstedt have also confirmed as speakers. Interested speakers are welcomed to send in the papers and topics for consideration. For details, contact Pikom or visit the Web site, www.Apricot2001.net.
